What is Kiteboarding?
Kiteboarding also known as Kitesurfing has years and years of history dating back to when ancient Chinese first used kites as propulsion devices. Through the 80’s and 90’s using kites for the purpose of propelling oneself became more and more popular and kites were used in many different ways often propelling canoes, buggies, boards, ect… Through the 90’s the sport of Kiteboarding or using a kite to propel you on a board through the water became the most widely used form of kite use.
Today the sport is flourishing as many new riders pick up the sport every year. Also kite and board technology is quickly evolving with the increased number of participants. It is estimated that there are between 150,000 and 210,000 Kiteboarders world wide. This number grows rapidly each year as more and more people learn of and begin Kiteboarding themselves.

The idea behind Kiteboarding is to harnesses the power of the wind using a large kite and to then use that power to propel you through the water on a board. The sport is most similar to wakeboarding and or surfing, the difference being the power source.
